How DCC's Flow

Overview

This scenario addressed how upstream certifications (like IRMA & Coppermark) link to Digital Facility Records and move to RMAP-Conformant smelters and further downstream in the supply chain. Three mineral standard schemes participated in the collaborative pilot - the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process (RMI), Coppermark, and IRMA, as well as one government agency (the British Columbia Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals). This scenario was conducted alongside “Linking Chain of Custody” scenario, and the Digital Conformity Credentials for each individual upstream & midstream pilot participant can be found in the sub-pages for the Linking Chain of Custody page.

Links to sample credentials that were generated as part of the pilot for each of the standard schemes are included on sub-pages for this scenario.

Key Question:

  • How do upstream certifications link to sustainability claims about facilities, and how do they support claims as data moves along supply chains?

Scenario Value Chain Outline:

An example of Digital Conformity Credentials at different supply chain actors is below. This example is illustrative, and all Conformity Credentials created for individual pilot participants can be found on the sub-page for the participants under Linking Chain of Custody.

Lessons Learned/Conclusions from Roundtable:

  • Validated core items for RBTP proof of concept:
    • Claims as supported by Digital Conformity Credentials (DCCs) are clear to all pilot participants
    • RBTP enables interoperability between different due diligence & sustainability standard schemes
    • RBTP credentials can be created in line with existing business & production processes & do not need to be created for products that are not sent externally to an operation (e.g. intermediate product only used in subsequent production within company)
  • Digital Facility Record (DFR) link to third-party validated Digital Conformity Credential (DCC) is a valuable addition beyond previous traceability work in industry
  • Issuer of a Digital Conformity Credential is clear; self-assessment vs third-party assessment – third-party issued Digital Conformity Credential has more value to customers than self-issued DCC as evidence to support a claim
